Weather & Safety

Understanding the difference between a watch and a warning can save lives during severe weather events.

  • Watch: Be prepared.

    • A watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather such as tornadoes or flash flooding. It doesn’t mean the event is happening, but it could. Stay alert, monitor weather updates, and be ready to act.

  • Warning: Take action.

    • A warning means severe weather is happening or imminent. For example, a tornado has been spotted or indicated by radar. Seek shelter immediately and follow safety protocols.

Stay informed and ready to respond by turning on alerts from trusted weather sources and keeping a plan in place for your family. For an easier way to understand the difference, we’ve provided a fun taco visual below!
