Public Notice: Rabies Alert in Bald Knob

The City of Bald Knob would like to inform residents of a recent rabies case confirmed in our area. On March 5, 2024, Bald Knob Animal Control responded to a call on North Hickory, off Highway 258, regarding a skunk. The skunk was captured and sent to the Arkansas Department of Health for rabies testing, where it tested positive for the virus.

While rabies cases are rare, they pose a serious health risk to both humans and animals. Rabies is a deadly viral disease that spreads primarily through the bite of an infected animal. To protect your pets and community, Bald Knob Animal Control urges all residents to ensure their pets are up to date on rabies vaccinations through a licensed veterinary facility.

How You Can Stay Safe:

• Vaccinate Your Pets – Keeping your dogs and cats vaccinated is the best way to prevent the spread of rabies.

• Avoid Contact with Wildlife – Do not approach or handle wild animals, especially if they appear sick or behave strangely.

• Report Unusual Animal Behavior – If you see an animal acting aggressively or strangely, contact Bald Knob Animal Control.

• Secure Trash and Pet Food – This helps keep wild animals, such as skunks and raccoons, away from your property.

We want all Bald Knob residents to be aware of this situation and take necessary precautions. If you have any concerns or need to report an animal issue, please contact Bald Knob Animal Control immediately.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe!
